THE BIRD THAT SAVED ITSELF: An Endangered Bird, Its Unlikely Prey, and a Story of Hope in a Changing World
is professor of Environmental Studies at Eckerd College, where she teaches about wetlands and global environmental change and researches how climate change and sea level rise affect the Everglades. She will speak during the Division & College of Undergraduate Studies' Faculty Forum on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 11:30 a.m., in Taylor Auditorium (Marsh 216).
Flower's first book debuted in March. The Kite and the Snail: An Endangered Bird, Its Unlikely Prey, and a Story of Hope in a Changing World is published by the University Press of Florida. Her book will be available for purchase and signing at the talk. She is currently working on a book about flamingos in Florida.
Dr. Flower is also available Monday, November 16, the day before her talk, if you are interested in her visiting with your class. Dr. Flower conducted climate change modeling scenarios for the Florida Everglades, and her results challenge our standard approach to "building resiliency to climate change." It will prove to be a thought-provoking talk and dialogue for your students.
Please reach out to Dr. Heide Island if you are interested in scheduling Dr. Flower to visit with your class sometime Monday, Nov. 16.
